Preparing for your educational journey is a big – and important – part of your life. Whether you’re seeking hands-on experience or excited to join a new community and make lifelong connections, there’s a place for you here at York University! Check out three of the ways we help set you up for success.

Get career-ready with Work-Integrated Learning

York offers many work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities where you can apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world situations. More than 70% of our programs offer WIL, with new experiences being added every year. Studying, living and working in a dynamic business capital like Toronto also provides exciting access to top employers and a world of opportunity.

Learn more about some of our WIL options:

Co-op: Try different career paths, develop practical skills and gain paid work experience between your study terms.

Placements: Develop skills learned in class through hands-on work experience, all while earning credit towards your degree.

Work/Study positions: Work and study, right on York’s campus! Learn what it’s like to work in a university setting through roles that accommodate your class schedule.

Pro tip: Check out our career-related blog posts to hear from York students about their own WIL experiences.

Residence guarantees

Living on campus means living right in the centre of your university community. When you choose on-campus housing, you will join 2,700+ students living across 10 residences. It’s an incredible opportunity to make lifelong friendships, feel secure and supported, and get the most out of your university experience.

Canadian high-school students and international high-school students starting at York in Fall 2026 each have residence guarantees! Learn more on our Housing website.

Make sure that you apply for residence by your respective housing application deadline!

Benefit from scholarships and awards

Financing your studies is a big part of academic planning, and it’s important to explore available funding support. York has a variety of scholarships, awards and bursaries to support you during your degree.
