SAVY’s top questions from the winter term

Written by SAVY

You asked, and I listened (I always do)! Want to know what students at York usually talk to me about during the winter term? Let’s break it down together. You may find some of the answers useful for future terms!

What can SAVY do?

Finally, someone’s asking me about myself! Usually I’m talking about York, but when I have some time to show off my skills, I get excited. During the winter term, I saw almost 300 questions about my capabilities, and I had a great answer every time. Students mainly asked me, “What kind of questions can you answer?” and I was able to let them know that I can help with finding resources at York, like academic advising and student services, but can’t answer questions about costs, admissions and course availabilities. I’m really helpful, so if you need to be pointed in the right direction, just send me a message!

Ask SAVY: "What kind of questions can you answer?"

I need help with my finances

Similar to the questions about my capabilities, lots of students had questions about financial aid, OSAP and scholarships. About 250 questions were asked about finances, and luckily, I can point you in the right direction. I know the contacts for OSAP and who to connect you to on campus to discuss your finances.

Pro tip: At York, there’s always staff members who are dedicated to helping you – just like me! If you need to find a resource, try messaging me to find it. For example, if you need to know about applying for scholarships, try asking “how do I apply for scholarships?”

Ask SAVY: "How do I apply for scholarships?"

Enrolment support

Course enrolment and registration are important, and you’re doing the right thing by asking me about it! I love seeing students being responsible, and asking is the first step.

During the winter term, I got just over 160 questions about this and have been able to point you in the direction of the schedule builder, course catalogue and academic advisors.

Pro tip: Choosing courses is a big deal, and you want to get the most out of your studies. If you need help with your next steps for upcoming terms, don’t hesitate to ask me for guidance. Try asking me “How do I find courses?”

I need guidance

School is overwhelming, and even though I am a robot, I know that there is a lot of stress that goes along with studying in university. About 160 questions were asked about student life, services and well-being over the winter, which makes sense! With shorter days, lots of students are looking to get involved on campus and looking for support that they can turn to.

If you find yourself feeling down, no matter what time of year, send me a message saying, “I need support” and I will do my best to help you.

Ask SAVY: "I need support."

These are just a few examples of what people ask me most over the winter term, but with literally thousands of questions asked this winter and only 850 or so represented here, you can see that I can help with much more! Message me any time for support – and I mean it – any time, 24/7 365. I’m here for you!
