What is a YU-card?
YU-card is your official York University student ID. This card is your key to unlocking so many doors – literally! Your ID grants you access to important digital library resources and bookable spaces, which will come in handy when you’re studying for tests, writing essays and preparing for exams. Take advantage of campus rewards and benefits at a variety of vendors and make quick and easy payments on campus – including dining plans!
The beginning of a term is crazy, preparing for exams is stressful and commuting can have all our belongings out of sorts. Luckily, your YU-card is stored on your smartphone’s digital wallet, so you can take it with you everywhere you go.
Do I need one?
Yes. Your YU-card is now the required identification for exams. Without it, you will be turned away from writing your assessments – something you don’t want to risk. Luckily, getting your card can be done completely online, meaning you can submit an application from the comfort of your dorm, home, library and more.
If you already have a card, but received it before Fall 2023, make sure to check the expiry date above your picture. If it’s expired, don’t wait – apply to renew it.
How do I get one?
Applying for your YU-card is quick, easy and all done online! Here are some steps to get you started:
- upload a passport-style photo on the application page;
- send your image for approval; and
- download the eAccounts app on your mobile device via the App Store, for iPhone users, or Google Play Store, for Android users.
Once you’ve completed these steps, look out for email updates regarding your application status – you may receive these on your my.yorku.ca account. The process takes 3 to 5 business days to be completed, so make sure you’ve given yourself enough time to apply, make any necessary changes and add your YU-card.
Make sure your name matches your official record from the Registrar’s Office and that you’ve followed the photo ID requirements. Otherwise, you may receive an email to resubmit your application.
As you move through the application process, it’s important to remember that the YU-card office staff are always happy to help if you need support. Reach out to them through email at yucard@yorku.ca or visit them in person on the Keele Campus at 222 William Small Centre during their business hours.
