Congratulations! Accepting your offer of admission is a big step – and you’re probably wondering what to do next. We’ve got you covered with steps that will help you prepare for your first year and beyond at York.
Set up your Passport York account
Passport York is your personal login for most services at York, including course enrolment, your student account and more. You’ll use it throughout your time here, so don’t wait to set it up.
Pay your deposit and tuition
After accepting your offer, you’ll need to pay a non-refundable deposit to confirm your spot at York. This deposit is applied toward your tuition – it’s not an extra fee.
Your full tuition fees are based on how many courses (credits) you enrol in. Most undergraduate students take five courses per term. Once you’ve completed your course enrolment, you can check your student account to see your final tuition amount and payment deadlines.
Pro tip: Want to work during the school year? York’s Work/Study Program offers paid, on-campus opportunities to help you build experience and earn money!
Apply for residence
Thinking about living on campus? First-year, full-time students coming directly from high school are guaranteed a spot in residence if you apply by the deadline. York’s residences are supportive, inclusive and a great way to meet new people.
Pro tip: Already thinking about food? York has lots of campus dining options. Whether you’re craving a bubble tea or a burrito, you can find it at York!
Enrol in classes
Depending on your program, you might need to book an enrolment appointment or follow instructions to enrol online. Log in to MyFile to see what applies to you.
Through course enrolment, you'll:
- learn how to enrol in your courses;
- get help planning your academic schedule;
- find out what transfer credits you're eligible for; and
- learn when and how to pay tuition.
Pro tip: Once you’ve enrolled, check your course outlines and start building your booklist. Check out the York Bookstore or see if the library has it!
Take a tour
Get to know your new campus! Whether you plan on commuting or living on campus it’s important to get to know where you will be spending most of your time for the next few years. Take a tour to see your future lecture halls, labs and maybe find your favourite study spot.
Lastly, get excited! You’re approaching one of the most exciting and transformative stages in your life. Soak it all in, be present in the moment and take time to celebrate everything you’ve accomplished to get here.
Keep checking your email for updates, follow @studentlifeyorku to get a feel for the student experience and don’t be afraid to reach out with questions.
