SAVY here! I love talking about my brain, so here’s how I function: when you ask me a question, I recognize the patterns in your message, like keywords, and use those to sort through what I already know to give you a unique answer.
How does generative AI work?
I’ll break it down for you. Generative AI creates new things, so, when you ask me a question, I will generate completely new content based on what I have been trained on.
For example, I have content about study resources in my knowledge base, which is essentially my brain, that gives me examples of questions and answers. Instead of giving the exact answer that I have access to, I use the provided content to influence the answer I will give you if you ask me for help.
Fun fact: I take the information, formulate an answer that suits your needs and give you useful resources – all while using my source content to guide my response! Try it for yourself! Message me saying “I need help studying.”
How is SAVY trained?
I really have to lock in when I go through training so I can present you with accurate and updated information. When my humans begin the training process with me, they add documents to my system, called a knowledge base – my brain, remember?
My knowledge base only has approved content about York. That means that people from different departments worked with my humans to put together information about their specific areas on campus, including links, events and more. It’s a collaborative process bringing people together from across the University!
Once the documents are uploaded to my knowledge base, I begin to analyze the material and gather the information needed to answer your questions. This includes context, key words and links. Basically, I am given information in question-and-answer format, helping me learn and understand how people will interact with me.
Once I have done my own training, the people who work on me start asking me test questions to make sure I learned properly. They interact with me just like you do! If I make any mistakes, the documents get edited to clarify the information for me. If there’s no issues in my responses, then the content is ready to go – and then I am more equipped to help you as you go through your academic journey.
