Hey Lions! University life is super fun, but it can get stressful too. Just in case you are feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work that you still have to do, we are here to help you gain some perspective and get you some help! The Learning Skills Services (LSS) have amazing workshops that will help you deal with time management, reading and notetaking, exam prep and more. While there are many workshops offered by LSS, this #YUBlog will take you through five must-attend workshops.

All the workshops we mention here, can be found on the LSS Events page. Don’t forget to check these out and register for the ones that suit you best!

Remember that you must register with a York email address. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email. Please read the confirmation email carefully for important information about how to log in, how to access the presentation slides and more helpful tips.

Time Management

Here’s a sneak peek at mastering time management!

I often lose track of time when I’m engrossed in an assignment or reading (or watching Netflix). And then I ask myself where did the time go? If you have the same problem or having trouble balancing school, work, and life, the Time Management workshop is for you! At this session, you will learn practical, personalized approaches to managing your time in a way that works for you.

Presentation Skills

Does the thought of presenting in front of a group make you nervous? If so, you’re not alone. This workshop will provide you with the essential tools you need to effectively develop and deliver a presentation.

Exam Prep

Multiple-choice, short answer, calculations, or essay style – which form is your personal nemesis? Whatever the format, midterms, or finals, if you could use some help in preparing for exams, then this workshop is for you!

Reading & Notetaking

Many students find keeping up with the readings and lecture notes at university to be a real challenge. Learn more effective reading and note-taking techniques to help you stay on top of your coursework.

Leadership Skills Development Workshops

As part of Student Community and Leadership Development (SCLD), the Leadership Program’s goal is to build and support student leadership at York University, by focusing on developing the six core leadership and career competencies outlined within the Becoming YU program. These skills development workshops focus on increasing students’ leadership capacity, community engagement and social impact, on and off-campus.

You can earn your foundational or advanced York Student Leadership Certificate by attending eight or 12+ Leadership Skills Development workshops at any point during your time as a York student (undergraduate or graduate).

Don’t forget that all LSS workshops that you attend can be added to your Co-Curricular Record. This is a great way to supplement your in-class learning and add to your resume. Leadership skills and certificates are valuable when applying to graduate and professional schools, jobs, and other relevant opportunities.

For more information, check out the Current Leadership Skills Development Workshops.
