Pride Month at York University is a time of celebration! #YUPride strives to empower people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions while promoting acceptance, inclusivity and diversity for York U’s 2SLGBTQIAP community. If you want to learn more about Gender Identity and Gender Expression, please read York U’s guide for students, faculty and staff.

Speaking of celebration, #YUPride is hosting many events on campus this June! If you aren’t able to come to campus, you can also check out the Pride Toronto events that are happening over the course of Pride Month. In today’s #YUBlog post, we will dive into the events happening on campus and downtown – we hope to see you there!

Pride at York – York University

York University’s 2019 Pride events begin Monday, June 17 and run until Thursday, June 20. This year’s events are hosted in collaboration by the SexGen York Committee, the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion, the Art Gallery of York University (AGYU), TBLGay and the York Federation of Students (YFS)!

SexGen Reception & Quilt Launch

Join the York U community from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 17 for #YUPride’s Film Screening and York’s Pride Community Quilt Launch! At 1 p.m. in the Nat Taylor Cinema (N102 Ross Building), SexGen, the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion and the Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) are hosting a screening of Queer Coolie-tudes, an 87-minute film that explores the experiences of queer Canadians from the Indo-Caribbean diaspora. After the film, you can ask questions with the filmmaker herself, York U faculty member Michelle Mohabeer!

Following the screening, SexGen will unveil their Pride Quilt at 3:10 p.m. in the East Bear Pitt in Central Square. The quilt was designed by York U students, faculty and staff and will be hung in York Lanes over the course of the celebrations at York U! There will be a reception with appetizers and a rainbow cake.

BBQ and Flag Drop (YFS and TBLGAY)

TBLGAY and YFS are co-hosting a BBQ and flag drop in the Student Centre Food Court!
