The Canadian winter months can sometimes feel quite long, especially when the weather outside isn’t so delightful. Thankfully, there are a ton of wonderful indoor activities in Toronto that are perfect for when you need a break from the ice and snow.
In this #YUBlog post, I’ll be sharing my top five indoor activities to do in the city for all of you looking to enjoy an exciting day indoors. If you’ve missed the previous installment of this series, be sure to visit our “Top Five Outdoor Activities in Toronto” post for even more activities to explore!
Visit Allan Gardens Conservatory
This indoor botanical garden is the perfect location if you’re looking for a break from the cold! The Allan Gardens Conservatory is home to six greenhouses, including two Tropical Houses and a Palm House full of palms, bananas and tropical vines. For a brief summer escape, I definitely recommend this destination!
Watch a Comedy Show
There’s no better way to relax than with a good old-fashioned laugh with your friends and family. Luckily, Toronto is home to several amazing comedy houses, including Second City, Absolute Comedy and more!
Did you know? YFS offers a student discount for Second City comedy shows.
It can sometimes be difficult to get in your daily exercise during the winter months, so why not check out Battle Sports, a sports entertainment arena? You can also turn to York University’s Campus Recreation services and facilities where you can take advantage of a student gym membership or join intramurals. You can even go skating or swimming, or attend a specialty class!

Visit Ripley’s Aquarium
You can view fascinating marine life right in the heart of Toronto at Ripley’s Aquarium. Here you’ll find all sorts of aquatic animals across many galleries that showcase jellyfish, stingrays, sharks and more! You can also check out the Ripley’s Aquarium groups and events webpage if you’re looking for a night out under the sea.
Did you know? You can get 10% off the General Admission ticket price if you present your Presto Card at the time of your purchase!
Visit Snakes & Lattes
One of my favourite ways to wind down after a busy term or a long week of classes is to visit Snakes & Lattes, a board game café with several locations around the city. I find this to be the perfect place to relax with a group of friends in a fun, relaxing atmosphere while playing board games and snacking on café food. I also highly recommend their Nutella latte!
