Make sure you keep track of all of your important application deadlines.

Before You Apply

Applying for graduate school requires careful research and planning, so it’s a good idea to start early. Visit York U’s Future Graduate Students Steps to Apply page for a full overview of the application process, noting important deadlines. If you have questions about your graduate application, including inquiries about admissions information, faculty research areas, supporting documentation or your application status, visit the Faculty of Graduate Studies Contacts webpage.

Next, research the York U graduate programs that align with your academic interests and career goals, as well as the specific admission requirements for each program. Each program requires different qualifications in regards to GPA, language proficiency, letters of recommendation, admission tests and additional supporting documents. Take note of submission deadlines to give yourself a sufficient amount of time to prepare, especially if you need to write a Statement of Interest or provide recommendation letters.

Success tip: If you require recommendation letters, try to ask your referees two months in advance to ensure that they have plenty of time to write. Provide your referees with an updated copy of your C.V. and a description of the program(s) you’re applying to so they can tailor their letter to your program, and don’t forget to send a thank-you note once they’re done.

Plan your finances

At York University, all qualified graduate students receive a guaranteed funding package for the duration of their program with their offer of admission. Funding opportunities include teaching assistantships, fellowships, scholarships, research assistantships, graduate assistantships and York Graduate Scholarships. You can research funding opportunities for graduate students on the Student Finances page.
