Hi there! You’ve reached an older post on the #YUBlog that may no longer contain relevant or up-to-date information. For the latest posts on York University go to our homepage where you can also search for posts by topic.

#1 Speak with representatives from various programs, Faculties, colleges and resources on campus.

Many representatives will be students themselves, so this is the perfect time to ask any questions you might have. I recommend checking out one of my old posts for some great questions to ask. Here is a small sample:

  • “What influenced your decision to accept York over other universities?”
  • “Are there evening, weekend or online courses available?”
  • “What is campus life like at York?”
  • “What supports does York offer to help first-year students succeed?”

#2 Attend a program session or mock lecture.

There are lots of things to consider when choosing a university that’s right for you. Your program of choice is a big consideration, of course, and Fall Campus Day goes a long way in helping answer some of your most pressing questions. Check our online agenda (it goes live Monday, November 2) for this year’s offerings. You’ll find sessions on particular degree paths, on the difference between majors and minors, on career options, on the ins and outs of admission requirements and much more.

You might even be lucky enough to attend a mock lecture (there’s one at 11am for all you Science geeks, for example — come learn about the beauty of the brain!). It’s a great way to get a better idea of what to expect during your first year of university, as lectures are very different from the traditional classroom experience in high school. You can consider things such as the environment, where you would like to sit (when you sit in the front you tend to focus better) and how you would like to record your notes (pen and paper are always effective, but typing on a laptop or tablet is generally faster). This way you will be better prepared for the start of your university adventure.

#3 Go on a tour and catch a sneak peek of the classroom buildings and residences on campus.

Fall Campus Day is one of the best days to explore York U. Tours of the campus, of individual buildings and of residences will provide you the opportunity to take a look around and imagine what your daily life as a student at York might look like. We have some pretty cool spaces, so don’t miss out. Plus, joining a tour will allow you to enter a contest to win some amazing York Experience prizes.

Don’t forget — if you are considering starting university in Fall 2016, rooms are guaranteed to students who apply for residence by June 1, 2016, with single rooms guaranteed to those who make the deadline and have a 90% or higher average.

#4 Share the campus with your family and let the community feeling win you over.

Fall Campus Day is the perfect day to share York’s campus with your family. It will create an amazing memory for all of you to experience firsthand our amazing energy and the York community spirit.

Students who register will receive insider information and reminders about special events. You don’t want to miss out.
