Making Mornings Less Hectic

A huge difference for many coming from high school into university is the change from a set daily schedule where school runs from 8:30 until 3 Monday to Friday, to a much more varied schedule where you could only have one class in a day starting at noon. Many enjoy this shift, as sleeping in occurs more than just weekends.  However, we in the dance department do not get the opportunity to enjoy this perk as we start class every morning at 8:45am.

Because of this, I have had to learn many strategies to make my mornings as stress free as possible! I hate feeling rushed in the morning, and I make it a priority to try to enjoy the time I have before I start my day. Here are my top tips.

Pack everything you need the night before – this includes any assignments you have to hand in, as well as school supplies you need for class that day.

Make your lunch the night before – this is a HUGE time saver and it’ll save you money if you don’t have to buy a lunch on campus.

Eat a good breakfast – this is the best way to start your day right, fueled up and ready to go. Mine always includes a steaming cup of coffee as well.

Wake up earlier than you have to – giving yourself a bit of extra time in the morning (even 15 minutes) is the best way feel relaxed in the morning. I like to do something for me, like watch a funny video on YouTube, or read a chapter of the novel I am reading. This just sets the tone for a good day!

After these steps, I feel ready to take on whatever life throws at me during the day!
