Workshops Announced to You at Your Service…
On September 24, I attended the training session for a Classroom Reporter position, offered by the Centre for Student Success and the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, (LA&PS is my faculty, which is based on your program of study.) Classroom Reporter is a volunteer position. It is a great chance to enhance your public speaking and presentation skills. This position is open to first year students, so it is the perfect opportunity for me.
Classroom reporters are responsible for announcing the upcoming workshops to their fellow students. Workshops range from Selecting a Post-Grad Program, Editing, Writing, Networking, Travelling Abroad, Preparing for MBA and other professional designations. Exam preparation is one of the workshops I’ll be notifying students about. I plan on attending this work shop too, because let’s face it–exams are not everyone’s strength, they’re certainly not mine! With so many opportunities available at York to ensure our success why not avail them?
This opportunity gives you a chance to attend professional and personal development workshops, plus a certificate for volunteering at the end of the term. Volunteering is a great way to develop references for jobs and graduate studies. There isn’t a more perfect time to equip yourself with these tools than university years!
This position also offers the SOARING program; by participating in workshops, activities, events, or volunteering you obtain points throughout the year. Collecting points can help you win monthly prizes, and receive official recognition for participation–with a Certificate of First Year Involvement, and the Outstanding Student Involvement Award. Gift card to the YU-book store was won by yours truly in October! Be sure to check out the SOARING, YouTube video.
