With such a strong Visual Arts program here at York University, it only makes sense that we have multiple art galleries here on campus. I’d like to draw your attention to a few of them.
The Eleanor Winters Art Gallery or EWAG is located in Winters College (Room 129 which is beside the Office of the Master) and showcases student work, from current students to alumni. The gallery hosts any type of art, from paintings and sculptures, to live performance and films. Students are encouraged to contact the gallery via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) if they are interested in using the space to display their work.
The Department of Visual Art and Art History uses the Gales Gallery to mount undergraduate and graduate exhibitions. It is located in Accolade West. I know my fellow blogger Megan recently saw an exhibit there and really enjoyed it!
The Art Gallery of York University or AGYU is located in Accolade East on the main floor. It is actually a public art gallery and generally exhibits Canadian as well as international art. It is open days Monday to Friday as well as Sunday and admission is free.
One of the coolest things about the Keele Campus here at York is the fact that there is art everywhere. Huge sculptures outside, paintings on the walls or a piece of art hanging from the ceiling. Just walking to your classes, you are bound to see at least one piece without ever setting foot in a gallery.
