Jasper tells students to prepare to have fun and get messy.

Orientation is just around the corner, and to help get students ready, one of Bethune College’s Orientation Chairs (O-Chair), Jasper Tubula, shares some advice and memories from Orientations past.

What can students expect from Orientation?

Students can expect lots of fun and excitement. We have many events for incoming students to help integrate them into the University. Events range from parties, to particular lectures, to meet and greets to food (everyone loves free food). Orientation will allow students to meet other students in their program, as well as students who are in upper-years who are there to help guide them through their first week at York.

What can students do to prepare?

Write down any questions you have! The Orientation Chairs are here to help them have a smooth transition. Reading the schedule also helps, so that they can prepare for the day’s events. If the trip is to Wasaga Beach you don’t want to show up wearing jeans and a nice shirt. Also if you see messy games, get ready to get MESSY.

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to meeting new students. I’ve been doing Orientation week for years now and I love meeting new and eager faces.

What is your favourite memory from your Orientation?

For sure the pranks we pulled on the Orientation Chairs. I don’t condone hurting anyone, but doing things that will make us laugh are always good.
