York’s biggest event of the year is coming up this weekend and we want you to be there. The Spring Open House at Keele campus is your best opportunity to check out campus; speak with York students, faculty and staff; and maybe get some free stuff along the way.
The day starts at 10am with an Information Fair throughout Vari Hall, the Vari Link and Central Square. Representatives (staff, faculty and current students) from all the Faculties, departments and programs to speak with you about any questions you may have about your program. If you’re wondering whether to do a Computer Engineering or Computer Science degree, or whether English, Professional Writing or Creative Writing – or some combination of the three – is best for you, this is an excellent opportunity. The staff and students will be able to speak with you about their experiences and what their programs will offer you. This way, you’ll be able to get the best idea of what each program includes.
You will also be able to speak with all the services on campus as well as many of the clubs and student organizations. These staff and students will speak to you about what York offers outside of the classroom – from parking and security to academic help and sports. If you’re interested in finding out what life at York is like outside of academics, make sure to check out some of these booths.
Aside from the information fair, you can also attend information sessions, mock lectures and guided tours. General campus tours begin at 10am and leave every 15 minutes from the Vari Hall Rotunda until 2pm. The tours are on foot and last about 50-60 minutes. Campus bus tours also leave from the Vari Hall Rotunda starting at 10am and leave every 15 minutes until 2pm. These tours last about 30 minutes and you must pick up your ticket from the tours table before boarding the bus.
We also offer specific tours. The Sport & Recreation tours begin at 11am and go until 2pm. This tour will leave on a shuttle bus from the Vari Hall Rotunda to the Tait McKenzie Centre. From here, one of our student ambassadors will you show you around our excellent sport and recreation facilities. Faculty-specific tours go all day and will leave from the Faculty booth in the Vari Hall Rotunda.
The various information sessions held throughout the day provide a great opportunity to find out about some of the more intricate details of student life. Sessions include Creating Your Financial Plan: Funding Options for Your University Education (11-11:45am and 1-1:45pm, Vari Hall B), Accessing Disability-Related Academic Accommodations: Helping Students with Learning and Other Disabilities Transition to University (11-11:45am, Vari Hal 1152A) and International Opportunities (12-12:45pm, Vari Hall 1152A). Information sessions include a presentation from a York staff member as well as an opportunity to chat with that staff member about the topic of the session.
While Admissions Central does not include the same talks as the other sessions, it does provide a unique opportunity to find out the latest information on admissions, submit your documents and find out the status of your application. This session goes from 10am-2:30pm in Vari Hall 1158. A similar session, Admissions Updates for International Students provides the same opportunities but with information tailored to international students. The international admissions session goes from 10-10:45am in Vari Hall 1152A.
The various Faculties will also host their own information sessions throughout the day. You can find out about the specific sessions available on the agenda available on our Future Students website.
