There are so many things to do as a York University student both in and out of the campus. Unlike what most people think, Keele campus is not boring at all. Being a university student is not always all work and studying. It can be one of the most exciting and memorable times of your life. If you are the adventurous type, there will always be something to do. You don’t need to feel like you are stuck on campus because student life does extend beyond the Keele and Steeles area. I’ve got a round up of a couple of things you can do in between classes, after school and on the weekends.
Shop Till You Drop – Less than half an hour away from YorkU is Yorkdale Shopping Centre – home to many popular brands such as H&M, GAP, The Bay, J.Crew and TopShop. Journey a little north to Vaughn Mills and you’ll find some of the sweetest deals on designer clothing. Eaton Centre is one of Toronto’s busiest malls located in Downtown Toronto and is a 45-minute ride by TTC subway transit.
Enjoy Nature and the Outdoors – Obviously, this might not seem very enticing in the winter but during the summer, there are many reasons for you to visit Downsview Park. Relish the serene nature of its surroundings or have a picnic by the pond. Plan a small getaway or summer barbecue with your friends on the grass, nicely hidden from the crowded city. Downsview Park is the site of many outdoor summer festivals like the Rastafest and VELD music festival.
Eat to Your Heart’s Fill – Do you ever get bored with some of the food options on campus? Most of YorkU’s restaurants are located at York Lanes and the Student Centre. However, there are many other interesting places to get food apart from popular hotspots like Berries and Bloom or Thai Express on campus where the line ups are usually during lunchtime. Get yourself a hearty breakfast at Eggsmart and Cora. Just opposite the campus on Keele street is Hoops Sports Bar and Grill where the wings are great. If you’re an Asian food lover, don’t miss out on what all the restaurants have to offer for dine-in or take-out. Oishi Sushi at the corner of Keele and Finch has delicious buffet options.
Put In a Good Gym Workout – Get involved in the intramural sports happening on campus and check out the York University Lions hockey, basketball or track and field teams play against other schools during games that are held throughout the year. You can also join any one of these teams. If competitive sports is not your thing, feel free to get active and ease off some of the school stress by getting in a good workout at Tait Mckenzie Centre. Make it fun by making it a weekly group workout with some of your friends.
