Welcome to Diary of an Undergrad!

I’m Jamila, YU blogger and undergraduate student completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies. My interests include fashion, food, photography and design and I’m hoping to infuse all of these things into a career in public relations when I graduate. Through my blog posts, I’m hoping to help you successfully navigate the intersection of academics, career and life at York University.

Before coming to YorkU, I was working full-time for a major school board in the Greater Toronto Area when I realized I wanted more than just a college diploma. Millennials like me are going through a rough period in the workforce right now. It isn’t just that there are few jobs but its competitive and several applicants usually apply for the same position. Therefore, a college diploma is now like a high school certificate – in my own opinion. A bachelor’s degree could help you climb the corporate ladder faster and there are many fields of study to choose from.

According to Canadianmillenials.ca, a study conducted by the Pew Research Centre shows that “70% of millennial men and 61% of millennial women – defined by the study as ages 18 – 32 – say they’d like to be boss.” You will have to earn that corner office so you’re on the right track by being in University and hopefully you’ll graduate with a relevant career doing something you love. Before that, join me every Tuesday and Friday as I chronicle what it’s like to be a success at York University. My blog posts will offer answers to your questions about navigating student life and academic success. Expect to be informed, inspired and entertained all at once.

Now, let’s talk about you. What particular topics you would like to read about on my blog?
