As many of you know that York U offers three separate entry times—January, May, and September. This year for the summer term I am exploring my options for studying abroad—granted that the courses for my program are being offered. Some of the places I am considering at the moment are but not limited to Turkey, Italy, Geneva, and Greece. Summer Study Program appeals to me for several reasons.
The chance to study abroad for the summer is perfect for me because I am not able to dedicate a whole semester abroad. I prefer to do work/study positions on campus for a whole semester that I really enjoy as I get to learn more about York U while getting involved, and of course earn money. 😉
It will be a great experience, as I will get to learn about a new country and culture that I otherwise would not be exposed to. It will be a chance to add memories to my scrapbook while completing my degree and making my University years worthwhile.
It will help me come out of my comfort zone while being able to learn a new language. As being a student it’s a perfect chance to study on a budget, while still being able to apply for OSAP when studying abroad.
Most importantly the credits earned in another country will count towards my degree. Now that’s awesome…fast tracking, earning credits and travelling–all at the same time! The summer programs range from 3 weeks to 3 months; cost around $2000 – $6000, and often include accommodations and excursions, sometimes travel expenses. Some scholarships are available for certain programs.
I will also be attending one of the information sessions listed below to get my questions answered regarding the whole process. We are only required to attend one session.
- Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 13:30-14:30 in 305 Founders (Senior Common Room).
- Wednesday, January 22 from 14:30-15:30 in 305 FC.
I have posted the links for anyone else who might be interested in applying for the program too.
